This website is developed to keep our members informed of what is going on in Albany County and through the Region. As working men and women-every one and everywhere-we are our greatest resource. We organize and represent workers to ensure our voice is heard, our place at the table is kept and the American dream is ours in the 21st Century. As a labor union, we hold these values as our working principles:
CSEA State President Danny Donahue and former Local 801 President Victoria Miller (Retired)accepting Albany County Local 801 50th Year Banner at the 2017 Annual Delegates Meeting in Rochester NY.
“The defeat of the proposal to hold a Constitutional Convention is a huge win for CSEA, labor, and all New Yorkers. It is a demonstration of how CSEA members, our brothers and sisters in labor and other working people really can make a difference. I thank our members and our allies in labor and other organizations for not only spreading the message that this convention would be a boondoggle for our state, but for their solidarity on behalf of all working people in New York. Our members and millions of other people throughout the state recognized the potential disaster, and turned out to make our voices heard.Without CSEA and our allies voting NO on the constitutional convention, there’s a good chance we’d all be on the hook for a very expensive and dangerous ride. When it comes down to it, this is just another example of how important labor is in protecting our rights, and the rights of our families and friends everywhere. This is a very proud day for CSEA.”

EPI released an interactive map that paints a disturbing picture of the rise of anti-worker preemption laws across the country. The map shows which states have blocked cities and counties from improving workers’ wages and working conditions. Workers in St. Louis, for example, got a boost when the city increased its minimum wage to $10—but the Missouri state legislature knocked it back down to $7.70 and 31,000 workers lost a raise. The map plots preemption activity in five key areas of labor and employment: minimum wage, paid leave, fair work schedules, prevailing wage, and project labor agreements. View the map »Share this map:26 states have preemption laws targeting local efforts to raise workers' living standards. How does your state stack up? States must step in to restore overtime protections to workersIn 2016, the U.S. Labor Department proposed an overtime pay rule that would have raised from $23,660 to $47,476 the salary threshold below which workers must be paid overtime. The increase is a much-needed update of a threshold that has been severely eroded by inflation. But the rule has been held up in the courts and Trump administration officials have said that a threshold in the low $30,000s would be “appropriate.” EPI and the Economic Analysis and Research Network (EARN) have released a briefing paper and detailed policy and legislative guidance describing how state policymakers can intervene to protect their workers where federal policy has failed them.

Committees are very important to an organization. They are a body of persons delegated to consider, investigate, take action on, or report on some matters. The President chooses these committee's very carefully from highly motivated members who will work hard to keep the members and their families up to date on all the issues that relate to them. After the Committees are chosen the President has the difficult task of choosing a Chairperson to bring the Committee groups together. The President chooses these committee's very carefully from highly motivated members who will work hard to keep the members and their families up to date on all the issues that relate to them. Five Habits to Break Before You Leave the Military
When we think of bad habits, most people think of smoking, drinking, unhealthy eating or running late. A habit is defined as: an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary. While in the military, many of your behaviors, practices, routines formed habits that came from the training and experience you gained while you were performing your duties. As you transition out of uniform, it is important to recognize that some of these habits don't work well in the civilian workforce, and can limit your opportunities to build a post-military career. Here are five bad habits to consider breaking: Learn More

Veterans Choice ProgramMilitary.com | Week of April 10, 2017 The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veteran's Choice Program was created to serve veterans with long waiting periods or who live longer distances from treatment facilities. The Veteran's Choice program allows these men and women to receive care with a non-VA provider of their choosing. You may be eligible for the program if: (1) you have VA health care and have been or will wait more than 30 days for VA medical care; (2) the medical treatment you need is not offered by the VA; (3) you live more than 40 miles away from a VA provider; (4) you have specific issues that would make travel difficult. When Nicole, an Army Veteran and single mom, left the military, she did not think she could affordto buy a home. VA’s home loan program made home ownership a feasible option for Nicole.“I felt this sense of pride and joy that I had a home of my own,” says Nicole. “I could have a dog and a cat, and a fenced in yard that my daughter could play in.”Every year, VA-guaranteed home loans help thousands of Veterans buy their very own home – with no down payment required. VA offers competitive interest rates, limitations on closing costs and no mortgage insurance. VA also provides grants to Veterans with certain severe service-connected disabilities for housing alterations such as ramps and widened doors.“I look at people who haven’t taken advantage of their benefits, and I look at people who have, and the difference is huge – it’s tremendous,” says Nicole.Visitt Explore.VA.gov or click the button below to learn more about VA home loan programs and all VA benefits.

These partnerships bring together unions and employers to recruit, train, and diversify the workforce for a given industry or a specific employer. The involvement of unions ensures employer training programs that benefit the company also benefit workers and their communities by creating pathways to family-sustaining careers.Read the full article.
Democrats Have An Ambitious Plan To Help Rebuild Labor Unions
As a pillar of the Democratic Party, unions have wanted for years to see mainstream Democrats push for major reforms to the law that would rejuvenate the ranks of organized labor. At the press conference Wednesday, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka applauded the proposals, but also emphasized that many Democrats have taken their union support for granted.“To be perfectly honest, Democrats in the past have lost some of their connection with working people in our communities who made up their base for generations,” Trumka said. “But this ― these proposals ― will strengthen that bond.”Read the full article.
